about me
My name is Brittany Botta and I will be graduating from Mount Saint Mary College in May 2013 with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. I will also be dually certified in childhood education and teaching students with disabilities (grades 1-6), as well as a middle school extension (grades 7-9) in teaching math.
I have always enjoyed working with children and have wanted to become a teacher from a young age. As a camp counselor and a birthday party hostess, I have been able to form relationships with children and gain a better understanding about the way they learn and play. I have also had the opportunity to work at a camp in New York City, which focused on engaging girls in critical thinking and problem-based learning. I enjoyed working in this setting, helping teach classes including Animal Nature, Lab Science, and 'Zine Scene, because I was able to promote girl empowerment, especially in math and science.

Throughout my student teaching, and other experiences working with children, I have used my enthusiasm for the performing arts to help children shine on stage as well as in the classroom. I am interested in integrating the performing arts with math because it allows students with different learning styles and interests to become more enthusiastic about math. As a cheerleading coach, dance teacher and education intern at TADA Youth Theater, I have motivated children to use their creative thinking skills and pursue their dreams. I have also incorporated the performing arts into my lesson and unit planning in order to engage my students and create lifelong learning experiences.
I have always been motivated to take on new experiences to gain a better understanding of the world and myself. I participated in the Disney College program and studied abroad at Oxford University. These experiences have also allowed me to develop in cultural sensitivity. I am dedicated to becoming a great teacher and have taken on opportunities for professional development, including participating in workshops at the American Educational Research Association Conference as an Undergraduate Research fellow. After graduating from college, I hope to become a great teacher who inspires my students to love learning and grow as confident individuals.
